    A Critical Reconsideration of Digital Humanities

    As an emerging field in humanities research, digital humanities remains a somewhat ambiguous discipline, accompanied by ongoing controversy.This article, from a methodological perspective, comprehensively analyzes the discussions by scholars from various countries regarding digital humanities' role in overcoming the limitations of traditional humanities research, and critically points out the current tendency in digital humanities research to "emphasize data construction while neglecting substantive research.The article argues that digital humanities should essentially be understood as a methodology for humanities research, rather than an independent discipline, and emphasizes data accuracy, the scientific rigor of research, and the strictness of logical argumentation.At the same time, the article criticizes current digital humanities education for its excessive focus on the use of technological tools while neglecting the cultivation of awareness of humanities issues and the ability to identify and solve problems.Therefore, it is necessary to shift from a "technology-centric" to a "problem-centric" and "critical thinking" orientation.

    Most accounts of responsibility focus on one type of responsibility, moral responsibility, or address one particular aspect of moral responsibility such as agency.This article outlines a broader framework to think about responsibility that includes causal responsibility, relational responsibility, and what I call“narrative responsibility”as a form of“hermeneutic responsibility”,connects these notions of responsibility with different kinds of knowledge, disciplines, and perspectives on human being, and shows how this framework is helpful for mapping and analysing how artificial intelligence(AI)challenges human responsibility and sense-making in various ways.Mobilizing recent hermeneutic approaches to technology, the article argues that next to, and interwoven with, other types of responsibility such as moral responsibility, we also have narrative and hermeneutic responsibility—in general and for technology.For example, it is our task as humans to make sense of, with and, if necessary, against AI.While from a posthumanist point of view, technologies also contribute to sense-making, humans are the experiencers and bearers of responsibility and always remain in charge when it comes to this hermeneutic responsibility.Facing and working with a world of data, correlations, and probabilities, we are nevertheless condemned to make sense.Moreover, this also has a normative, sometimes even political aspect: acknowledging and embracing our hermeneutic responsibility is important if we want to avoid that our stories are written elsewhere—through technology.

    he study of the history of the CPC faces core challenges such as fragmented historical materials, a single form of dissemination, and insufficient personalized education.To address these issues, this study constructs an intelligent corpus for the study of the history of the CPC.Its core innovation lies in proposing a dedicated OCR adaptation scheme for Party history documents and a parent-child segmented knowledge base construction model, forming a technical framework "based on OCR adaptation and transformation, with a parent-child segmented knowledge base as the core, and supported by four functional modules(intelligent question answering, word cloud, knowledge graph, and mind map)." This article analyzes the key problem-solving strategies and functional module implementation mechanisms in the development of the intelligent corpus, extracts the construction experience in technology adaptation, knowledge structuring, and demand orientation, and discusses existing problems such as corpus processing, proofreading tools, and knowledge base development, providing a reference for the technological empowerment of the deepening of Party history research.

    Faced with a vast and highly unstructured body of historical archives, traditional digitization and keyword retrieval methods are insufficient to meet the increasingly complex needs of historical research.This is especially true when dealing with complex historical materials like The Sheng Xuanhuai Archives,which involve a multi-dimensional network of late Qing Dynasty politics, economy, and diplomacy.Researchers often find themselves in a predicament of incomplete retrieval, unclear organization, and difficulty in making connections.This study, based on a review of the technological background of the digital humanities' transformation from digitization and structuring to intelligentization, introduces cutting-edge thinking chain technology and reasoning-action framework from large language models to construct an "Intelligent Analysis System for The Sheng Xuanhuai Archives" based on Agentic RAG.This system breaks through the limitations of traditional predefined knowledge graphs, achieving semantic vectorization and dynamic reasoning of the entire archive text through the collaborative work of five agents: "intent understanding, data retrieval, data summarization, evaluation and decision-making, and content writing." The system possesses the capabilities of proactively planning retrieval paths, multi-step logical deduction, cross-document evidence verification, and self-correction, simulating the cognitive process of historians: "proposing hypotheses—collecting historical materials—verifying and analyzing—forming conclusions." This article demonstrates the system's application potential through typical cases at the micro, meso, and macro levels.Research practice proves that this "human-in-the-loop" collaborative model in the AI era not only liberates historians from tedious information searching but also opens up new possibilities for historical research characterized by digital archaeology and holographic logic enhancement.

    In the current digital context, traditional centralized online databases face structural challenges in terms of data autonomy, continuous operation, and collaboration of massive amounts of data.This research aims to propose and construct a comprehensive solution centered on "data localization, " utilizing Obsidian note-taking software, open-source OCR technology, and a self-built private cloud synchronization mechanism to establish a personalized, highly portable, and collaborative historical data database.This solution solves the problem of the separation between historical materials and notes through Obsidian's pure Markdown architecture and plugin ecosystem, and integrates AI capabilities for historical data dialogue and analysis.Simultaneously, by building a high-performance private cloud, it overcomes the bandwidth limitations of traditional cloud storage, achieving data autonomy and efficient team collaboration.This solution provides individual researchers and small academic teams with a low-cost, sustainable, and highly secure digital humanities research workflow, contributing to the open and tiered development of academic accumulation.

    With the deepening involvement of generative artificial intelligence in literary creation, prompts have become a key factor shaping the effectiveness of human-AI collaborative writing.This study investigates how prompts stimulate AI's literary creativity by conducting generation experiments on the DeepSeek model using five types of prompts, and by employing a combined subjective-objective evaluation framework for both quantitative and qualitative analysis.Through a mechanism of“semantic orientation-cognitive-rhetorical intervention, ”prompts translate human intentions into executable creative operations for AI.Abstract-concept prompts activate cross-domain analogy, while integrative prompts facilitate the synthesis of heterogeneous semantics.The cultural parasitism of AI not only reflects the collective unconscious of humankind, but also creates opportunities for defamiliarized expression, thereby fostering the emergence of distributed creativity.The findings highlight the crucial role of prompt design and multi-round generation strategies in AI-assisted literary creation, and provide theoretical and methodological reference points for human-AI collaborative writing in the context of digital humanities.

    This paper takes "gamified being" as a theoretical proposition to systematically explore the mode of existence and cognitive pathways of cultural heritage within the digital-native paradigm.It defines video games as procedural modeling/simulation systems encompassing four attributes: simulacra systems, embodied interfaces, possible spacetimes, and affective media.The study further reveals their mechanistic potential in enhancing synesthetic experiences, activating body schemas, expanding imaginative spaces, and guiding public action.Building on this foundation, "playability" is identified as a key concept in digital humanities research, defined as the unity of operational possibility and generative openness.Its methodological value is elaborated across four dimensions: the fusion of representation, embodied cognition, dynamic deduction, and the convergence of energy.The research suggests that playability is not only a survival mechanism for digital cultural heritage but also a critical pathway for transforming the mode of knowledge production in the humanities from textual interpretation to simulation and experience.

    Shui script is a unique writing system of the Shui ethnic group in China and contains abundant information on ethnic culture, earning it the reputation of being the“encyclopedia”of the Shui people.However, its digital preservation and intelligent recognition face significant challenges due to the scarcity of data resources, the complexity and non-standardization of handwritten character forms, and the fact that semantic interpretation relies heavily on a limited number of inheritors.To address these issues, this study constructs a Shui Script Character Database and a Shui Script Intelligent Recognition Platform.The database adopts a four-level architecture of book-section-sentence-character, integrating character images, phonetic annotations, and explanatory glosses, while providing multi-path retrieval functions to effectively aggregate and manage dispersed Shui script documents.The intelligent recognition platform is built on a two-stage deep learning framework consisting of DBNet for text detection and CRNN for text recognition.By introducing a Unicode Private Use Area encoding scheme and employing data augmentation strategies, the platform is optimized for the low-resource characteristics, long-tail distribution, and complex layouts of Shui script data, thereby achieving high-accuracy recognition of handwritten Shui script texts.Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method significantly outperforms existing general-purpose OCR solutions in Shui script text detection and recognition tasks.This research provides an effective technical solution for the digital preservation of endangered minority scripts such as Shui script and offers important reference value for digital humanities research on related ancient documents.

    Against the backdrop of rapid development in contemporary electronic information technology, virtual currencies have emerged and swept the world, disrupting global financial markets and traditional governance systems.Since Satoshi Nakamoto published the "Bitcoin White Paper, " Bitcoin has become a representative virtual currency.This article, relying on electronic historical documentation and internet archaeology methods, based on native electronic historical materials from the internet and combining the latest domestic and international research, traces the development history of Bitcoin from a global and long-term perspective, compares the regulatory policies of different countries, explores the important value of Bitcoin as a new type of transaction currency in the era of decentralization and deglobalization, and points out that the evolution of virtual currencies is a product of the intertwining of technological protocols, material carriers, and social applications, thus proposing the "Tripartite Nested Space Production Model" hypothesis.This article provides a new perspective and path for understanding contemporary financial history and the history of internet development.
